Late Motiv’s new season promo
Regardless of being in a summer camp, fishing mermaids, in a tatami-interview or splitting watermelons in King’s Landing with Sansa Stark and Jon Snow, there’s no way to find out where Andreu Buenafuente is hiding. Anyway, the thing is that Spain’s most popular late-night show urgently needs its host back after the summer break.
Movistar+ approached us along with Blackbox Production Company and asked us to direct a TV Commercial announcing Late Motiv show’s new season. Starting from El Terrat hilarious script in which we follow Late Motiv’s production team through their surreal journey imagining crazy hypothesis on Buenafuente’s summer whereabouts, we proposed a comical animation story touched by fantastic elements, all conveyed in a modern-adult, artistic style.
“Where is Buenafuente?”
Using a high level of humor in every scene, we devised a world of fantasy that allowed us to portray such bizarre guessings on finding Buenafuente: surroundings were stylized both through a minimalist, graphic-ended illustration and by a saturated, fictitious color palette. On the contrary, considering that we were talking about well-known public figures, we needed the characters to be easily recognizable so we put a great effort into doing a realistic and trustworthy depiction of them.
The cel animation technique let us concentrate on the most specific details of the characters and hence it was key to achieve the warm, mundane, reliable liveliness we were looking for them. In order to make the project feasible, our biggest challenge was to find an appropriate balance between the characters’ remarkably developed animation work and the necessary optimization of the backgrounds.
“¡Buenafueeeeeeente! ¿Buenafuente? ¡¿Buenafuente?! Andreu has escaped us. The thing is, September is already here and we need to find him. So if you see him playing Words in the Ecuadorian jungle, or interviewing Obama as “Puigdemoi” on a tatami mat, tell him to come back. Buenafuenteeeee! The new Late Motiv season is ready to begin!”
